Doug is currently collecting reference related to the actions of the Red Diamond Division (Kearny / Birney) from 1861 to 1865 during the Civil War.  He would be interested in exchanging letters, newspaper articles and other material that describes the tactical situations and the soldier's perspective of this hard charging division.  His travels regularly take him to the National Archives in Washington and the United States Military History Institute in Carlisle, PA. He is more than willing to recover and share information with individuals researching family members (pension and military files) or partner with others working on projects of similar interests.
