3rd Michigan Infatry research project
Photo of Lewis Olmstead
One of the signal purposes of this project has been to collect, collate and publish updated biographical sketches of each and every one of the 1,411 men who, at one time or another, served in the first organization of the Third Michigan Infantry.

Since the biographies total more than two thousand pages a way had to be found to get them published in a timely manner and yet not overwhlem the reader. The idea is to publish one biography every day or so until they are all online.

Of course the biographies published online are not the final word on the lives of these men (and one woman).

The paper trail is severely limited but fortunately new information is always coming to light through diaries, letters, or even photographs, that family members and collectors are willing to share with the public. It is the express hope of this project to share that information as it becomes available.

To visit the biographies published online just in the sidebar on the left that says "3rd Michigan bios online," or you can just click here.

Oh, and if you have a newsreader on your computer you can subscribe to the updates as well. Just click on the RSS icon in the upper right hand side of the sidebar at the site where the sketches are published, and you'll be automatically notified when a new entry is added to the sketches online.
