William H. Fish

William H. Fish was born around 1838.

William was perhaps 23 years old and possibly living in Ionia County when he enlisted in Company D on May 13, 1861. (Company D was composed in large part of men who came from western Ionia County and Eaton County.) He was apparently left at Grand Rapids, presumably sick along with some three dozen other Third Michigan soldiers, when the Regiment departed for Washington on June 13, 1861.

It is not known if William ever rejoined the regiment, however, and was subsequently either discharged or dropped from the rolls on March 1, 1862. According to his military service record he was left sick at Muir, Ionia County, and supposedly deserted on November 1, 1861.

There is no further record, and no pension seems to be available. It is unknown if William joined or enlisted subsequently in any other Michigan regiment.
